Canva is a tool that enables users to create professional-looking social media graphics. You can use Canva to design posts for Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and even Pinterest!
In today’s world, the ability to produce social media content is crucial for any small business looking to get the word out about their brand, products, services, and so on. But with a plethora of social media platforms out there, it can be challenging to know where to start, and even more challenging to know which medium to choose.
To help you get started, I’m going to show you how to use Canva, an online tool that lets you quickly create beautiful, social media posts, stories or covers for your brand image.
Whether you’re launching a new website, updating an existing one or starting a blog, graphics are critical for keeping your content visually engaging. The Canva app lets you design stunning posts with ease, all without any design expertise. You can now develop a brand image across all social media platforms. Here are seven tips to get started with creating your own social media posts.
1. Understand the Scope
The first thing to do before posting a social media image is to figure out why you're sharing it. What does this post represent? Is it the goal of the company or its products? Does the creative represent an existing product? Is it a campaign for a new product? Is it a testimonial video for a company?
In order to understand what you're trying to communicate, think about the kind of message you want to convey. If it's your product, consider how you can take advantage of its features or benefits.
Once you've determined the context for your content, you can decide if the post is necessary. Will it add anything to your message? Does it help someone else? Is it just a visual that doesn't say much?
2. Use the Brand Guidelines
The brand guidelines are a set of rules that outline exactly what is allowed and what is not allowed when it comes to visual branding. By using the brand guidelines, you ensure that your audience has a consistent experience when viewing your content.
This can be really tricky, but if you don't understand how to use them, they can be used to control the overall style of your brand. The Brand Guidelines are there to make sure that the colors and fonts are consistent across the different platforms you use. This way you can keep the same brand image.
It's important to consider the colors, fonts and other brand identity elements when designing your post.
3. Decide on Your Layout
Decide on your layout before you start designing. Make sure you have an overall vision for your design, and know what elements you want in each section. For example, do you want a simple, classic design that incorporates a lot of text, or something with lots of photos?
Once you've started working on your design, make sure to use all the available features, such as adding and editing text, moving objects around, making selections, changing the background color, and so on. If you need anything extra, you can use the 'upload' function and upload your own patterns or assets.
If you don't have an idea already about what your post should look like, you can browse the templates from Canva and use a pre-made post design. You can also check our post templates and choose a pack that includes multiple designs. Regardless, of the template you choose, you can simply add your own text, photos and customize the colors to better match your brand.
4. Customize the Text and Image
Using Canva is a breeze. You simply click on the image that you want to edit, and you can then select different editing options from the top menu. You can make changes to the text itself, like choosing the font, adding a drop shadow, gradient, or a border.
You can also add special effects to the text (like a shadow, drop shadow, or gradient). Once you have finished making changes to the text, click on the “Done” button. This will allow you to save your design and share it with other users.
5. Add Backgrounds and Change Colors
Using Canva's background feature you can quickly add a background and color to an image to change the entire feel of a design.
It's important to use a background that complements your design. A background can help give the appearance of professionalism to an image or a layout. To access the background and color tools, click on the plus sign located next to the 'add' icon in the toolbar.
To choose a color, click on the color you wish to change. Once you click, you will be presented with the color picker tool. If you want to change a color of the text, click in the top left corner and select the color. To change the color of a shape, click on the shape.
You can also simply double-click to edit the color of the selected shape and apply a border to the selected object.
6. Preview Your Work
You can always change the copy of the post, but the image needs to be replaced in case you misspelled a word or made a font or design error. Before you hit the save and share your design, double-check it to see if it looks right. Not everything can be fixed after it’s been shared on social media.
The goal is to create a visually stunning creative that will grab your followers attention and make them engage with your post. However, you still need to follow your brand guidelines and use the correct colors or fonts. This is why you should always double-check your work in case you need to make small adjustments to the elements or text.
7. Save and Share
Now that your post is finished, you will need to click on the 'share' button and then click on 'download' from where you can select the file type, size and page that you wish to download. You can also share it directly on your social media from the app.
